How to Look After Your Hair Perm - Permed Hair Care Tips

There are several things that you need to keep in mind when you perm your hair. Its important to keep your hair healthy and have a pre consultation with your stylist before you perm your hair. You hair should be free from any chemicals for at least 24 hours before you perm.

First Wash
You will have to wait for at least 3 days before you shampoo your hair after a perm. This is because the curls have to set into the hair and the chemicals that are put into the hair has to cover the entire hair before it is washed off. You should also not brush your hair too much during this time.

Products
Use products that are specifically designed for hair which is permed and chemically treated. There are many products that are available that are designed specifically for permed hair, like shampoos and conditioners. These products have moisturisers that will help in keeping the moisture in the hair. The hair needs moisture because after a perm, the hair tends to become very dry and brittle.

Conditioning
Give your hair a deep conditioning or a hair mask, once in a week. The products that are available are wonderful for permed hair as it gives the hair an intense hydrating treatment and helps in fixing the damaged hair. You will have to put the treatment on your hair and then leave it on your hair for about 30 minutes. After which you can wash it off. With this you will notice how soft your hair will feel.

Combs
When you comb your hair, make sure you use a wide-toothed comb which will comb gently. Your pressure when you comb your hair should also be very light and gentle especially when your hair is wet. When you use fine toothed brushes and cobs, you will notice that it pulls your hair more and thus damage it. This can cause it to break. When hair is wet, it is very tender and therefore extra care should be taken with wet hair.

Trimming
Make sure you trim your hair every 6 to 8 weeks. You should keep your hair healthy and shiny and this can be done by removing the dead ends. Your curls will also be healthy because the weight of the ends wont affect it.

Styling Products                                                               Choosing the right styling products is very essential. You should choose ones that do not have any alcohol present in it. Alcohol can further dry your hair than what it already is. Alcohol free products will help keep the moisture in the hair for a longer time. This will enable your curls to look more healthy and your hair to be more shiny.

Blow-drying
This is a very important step. You must avoid blow drying your permed hair. The heat which you get from the blow dryers can damage the hair when it has been used for long periods of time. It is always healthy to let your hair air dry after you have had a shower than use a blow dryer. If you insist on using a blow dryer you should consider using a diffuser which distributes heat more evenly throughout the hair and thus, protecting your hair further.
